Castle cellar A.D. 1430

The unique Castle Cellar is located in the left wing of the Castle Valtice, near the Herbs Garden Lu & Tiree Chmelar.

It has it's roots in the 12th century, when a medieval castle stood above the cellar. In 1430, the reigning Liechtenstein family reconstructed the cellar and built the main wine production facilities here.

Until 1953, grapes were still pressed in this cellar on two huge log presses dating from 1803. One of them can still be seen here, the other was completely restored in 2015 due to its poor condition and moved to the Wine barn in the CHÂTEAU VALTICE winery.

The Castle Cellar with it's long history is therefore rightly one of the oldest and largest wine cellars in the Czech Republic. As a continuation of Liechtenstein's wine traditions, the CHÂTEAU VALTICE winery uses the capacity of this cellar to store and age it's best red wines in more than a hundred oak barrels.

On Saturday 21st September 2024 the cellar will be open for public only from 10:00 to 13:00 due to the preparation of a private event. Thank you for your understanding.

• Tour without tasting 80 CZK/person
• Tours are happening in the operating hours, approximately every full hour.
• Payment with card isn't possible in Castle Cellar, we accept only cash CZK.
