The wine temple with rotunda is the jewel of the Wine Barn, which is connected to both the historic Cross Cellar in the heart of the winery and the new tasting rooms of the Moravian wine cellar.
It is modeled after one of the oldest ancient temples - the Roman Pantheon. Like it, it is based on the so-called sacred geometry of the circle and square, but also on the magic number 8, all of which are depicted in various forms throughout the Wine Barn.
The source of daylight in the rotunda is provided by the circular oculus "God's Eye" at the top of the dome. The old motto of the Moravian Estates, "UNIO TE STANTE VIREBO - IF YOU STAND WITH ME, YOU WILL BE STRONG", is carved in granite around its perimeter, symbolically expressing the unity of Moravia.
In the middle, directly under the luminous eye, stands a glass pyramid hiding the greatest wine treasures from CHÂTEAU VALTICE.
The interconnection of all these principles gives the rotunda its uniqueness and makes it an energy centre, which also has a beneficial effect on the wines hidden in the pyramid.
The Temple of Wine is only open to the public as part of the tour circuit, always at designated times on Fridays and Saturdays and during selected wine events organised by our winery.
The Wine Barn complex was awarded a Special Prize in the Building of the South Moravian Region 2017 competition and was also among the 15 nominated buildings for the Building of the Year 2018 title.
