Gruner Silvaner from Valtice won Gold Medal in Berlin

The Sylvanian Green VOC Valtice Premium Collection from the 2023 vintage of CHÂTEAU VALTICE was awarded a gold medal at the renowned international wine competition Berliner Wine Trophy.

The grapes from which this beautiful wine was made come from one of our most beautiful vineyards in Valtice – Knížecí vyhlídka, located near the Reistna Colonnade.

“This premium Sylvanian Green delights with its delicate aroma reminiscent of a bouquet of blooming meadow flowers, yellow tropical fruits – especially grapefruit. The taste is very pleasant, harmonious and full-bodied, with a long aftertaste’, comments the award-winning wine David Št’astný, Director of CHÂTEAU VALTICE.

It is a wine in the ‘dry’ category with a fine residual sugar content of 1.9 g/l and a medium-high acidity of 6.9 g/l.

The overall character of the wine is underlined by the high sugar-free extract of 23.1 g/l.

Green Sylvaner is one of the flagship varieties of the CHÂTEAU VALTICE winery and has a centuries-old tradition of cultivation in Valtice. That is why this variety is rightly included under the VOC Valtice – Wine of Original Certification label, which aims to promote wine with controlled origin and expression reflecting the terroir of the area. The grapes for the production of wines with the VOC Valtice label come only from approved vineyards located in Valtice.

In the CHÂTEAU VALTICE range you will find, among others, the rare Sylvanian red variety. Like Tramin red, it is not a red wine but a white wine, which gets its name from the colour of the grape skins.

The Berliner Wine Trophy is the world’s largest wine competition under the auspices of the O.I.V. (International Organisation of Vine and Wine), which was awarded back in 2004 and also under the auspices of the International Union of Oenologists.

The wines are judged by a panel of experts from all over the world.

More than 14 000 wines take part in the competition each year.
